Eastwood is Judge, Jury, and Executioner!
A band of vigilantes catch Jed Cooper and, incorrectly believing him guilty of cattle rustling and murder, hang him and leave him for dead. But he doesn't die. He returns to his former profession of lawman to hunt down his lynchers and bring them to justice.

CLASSIC EASTWOOD WESTERN. EASTWOOD PLAYS JED COOPER, A MAN TRYING TO START A NEW LIFE AND BECOMING A FARMER WHEN A POSSE COMES AND ACCUSE HIM OF MURDER AND CATTLE RUSTLING. AFTER A FAILED HANGING HE IS TAKEN TO THE ONLY JUDGE IN THE TERRITORY AND IS PROVEN INNOCENT GOES BACK TO BEING A LAWMAN HUNTING DOWN THOSE IN THAT POSSE THAT TRIED TO HANG HIM. IT'S A GOOD WESTERN WITH EASTWOOD PLAYING A MARSHALL AND PAT HINGLE PLAYING THE TOUGH AS NAILS JUDGE. IF YOU LIKE WESTERNS IT'S A MUST SEE.Classic Eastwood - Big_Max
Clint Eastwood is an innocent man out to settle a score with the men who threw him "A Necktie Party". Survivng a hanging Eastwood is made a Lawman and goes about rounding up those repsponsible for the injustice he received.
One really feels sorry for Alan Hale jr's character who is a blacksmith that just got caught up in a bad thing.
The movie is well made and after forty years it is still good entertainment. 4 stars for a classic from Clint EastwoodTypical Clint - MovieLover5
A good western tale of revenge. A youthful Clint Eastwood is his usual taciturn self as the innocent cattleman who is determined to hunt down the men who took the law into their own hands by hanging him. The plot is interesting in that some of the men are deserving of their fate, while others are decidedly less so. Grisly stuff but not quite as grotty as some of Eastwood's other westerns. Fans of Clint will enjoy this film.
