Hanover Street
"A Model of Efficient War Filmmaking." -Variety
War-torn Europe is the setting for this romantic action/adventure about the fateful entanglements of two men in love with the same woman. Lt. David Halloran (Harrison Ford), a courageous American bomber pilot, and a British nurse (Lesley-Anne Down) accidentally meet during an air raid and fall instantly in love. Committed to an assignment, David asks her to meet him two weeks later, in spite of the fact that she is married. And she does. Her husband, Paul Sellinger (Christopher Plummer), is a British intelligence officer in charge of a special, dangerous mission behind enemy lines. As fate would have it, Halloran is chosen to fly Sellinger on the task. When their plane is shot down, the two must work together to complete the mission - and its only then that Halloran discovers who Sellinger is.

This is one of those war stories that brings home the message of urgency to live among the young who find themselves on the brink of losing all. A young Harrison Ford shows his Indiana Jones potential with great aplomb. Some stilted acting by the main female character - but maybe that's true to the era. This film was recommended to us - and we pass the message on wholeheartedly.Really worth watching, lots of emotions - scihum
Just as the last guy said, this movie is overly romantic. However, I feel this is still more a war movie than a romantic movie. This movie is about a love triangle who is intangled in ww2 spying circles.
Visual are extraordinary, better than most '90 and 2k era war movies. However, music distract too much from the plot, I would have prefered "Vangelis style" or something more discrete.
There is a lot of interaction between caracters, the movie is fairly complex, not a simple good guy vs bad guy story.Good but overly dramatic - XTRUClerk
Hanover Street is another movie that seems to go on forever. There's at least half an hour where nothing much happens. The melodrama, already thick, just gets thicker and nothing much is accomplished. That isn't to say that the movie doesn't have its moments. Watching Harrison Ford change from the daring bomber pilot to a love-sick coward is something in itself. Leslie Anne Down is just lovely as the woman Ford falls for. The lush soundtrack by John Barry is superb, but just a touch too heavy-handed in a movie that is already overweighed with drama. Peter Hyams, who's other directing credits include Outland with Sean Connery and Capricorn One, two more films I always enjoyed, does a great job here too. If you're a Ford fan this is worth getting. Just have the box of tissues... and maybe some no-doze ready. Cheers.
