Hatari!
Director Howard Hawks reteams with John Wayne, who heads a group of highly skilled professional game hunters in Africa. Only they don't use bullets -- they capture the ferocious big game with strong rope and cameras for zoos and circus attractions. It is an exciting business that pits man against beast. "Hatari!" means danger in Swahili, but Hatari! also means a spectacular adventure film.

I watched one of John Wayne's serious cowboy movies, and didn't enjoy it even half as much as his humorous portrayal of Sean in this adventure-comedy. While I thought it would be more of an adventure, I was surprised when I found myself chuckling throughout the movie. Beautiful scenery, animals, and it has an overall easy and relaxed pace. Other than the characters of Sean (Wayne), Pockets and Kurt, the acting and romances are not completely believable. But because of the other enjoyable elements, you don't really care. One of Wayne's Best - Gaucho
Okay, how did Hawks do this one? A very long movie about capturing animals in Africa, no guns or villains, and no massive disasters? And how did he make it so interesting?
I dunno. But this is one of the most watchable, entertaining films of Wayne's career (and he made some really good films). Funny, interesting, and endearing: this film works on all levels.Danger in Swahili - Gregg
Perhaps its not politically correct in this day and age to have a movie about a group captuing wild animals in Africa for Zoo's around the world (especially with their decreasing numbers), but what we do have here is an action/adventure movie with very little violence at least violence between men.
I found this picture to be very entertaining and exciting especially when I was younger, particularily when you watch them catch the very large and dangerous animals using some very difficult methods mostly involving chasing them with ropes while seated on a seat strapped to the hoods/fender of a jeep.
Entertaining film from Howard Hawks, featuring John Wayne as well as Red Buttons and some other very recognizable faces.
Features the wonderful piece Baby Elephant Walk by Henry Mancini, which was written for this film.
