Heat
A Los Angeles Crime Saga
When Al Pacino and Robert De Niro square off, Heat sizzles. Written and directed by Michael Mann, Heat includes dazzling set pieces and a bank heist that USA Today's Mike Clark calls "the greatest action scene of recent times." It also offers "the most impressive collection of actors in one movie this year" (Newsweek). Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore and Ashley Judd are among the memorable supporting players in this tale of a brilliant L.A. cop (Pacino) following the trail from a deadly armed robbery to a crew headed by an equally brilliant master thief (De Niro).
Heat goes way beyond the expectations of the cops-and-criminals genre - and into the realm of movie masterpiece.

It's a film from the 90's. Of course, you know that going in but it really shows in the film in terms of story, characters and filmmaking in general during that time. Pacino and De Niro do their thing. It has some really interesting moments and scenes but takes a looong time to get there in between those moments. It could've been shorter overall for sure. Also, I guess my tastes are leaning towards more realistic fiction (The Office for example) these days. The way the characters interact with each other in this film is very movie-esque (It really could only happen in the movies, not in real life). If you don't mind long movies with a bit slower pace, this one is for sure worth checking out.Heat - djfunkybob
Many directors have tried to tell the story of a cop and the criminal rival he pursues, but none have done it better than Mann in this masterpiece. De Niro, Kilmer and others play professional robbers. Pacino and his team of detectives match wits with criminals exercising caution and discipline. Mann captured the emotion in Pacino’s relentless cop and the business-like approach of De Niro’s diligent and lonely thief. The characters are adeptly developed in a manner that infuses action sequences, intense drama and romance within scenes too often defaulted strictly to character development. The dialogue is well crafted and the lines are delivered masterfully by vets Pacino and De Niro.Modern Day Classic - Sports
Loved this movie from the first time I saw it and it just gets better with time. Michael Mann's stamp is firmly all over this movie and it is all the better for it because the strong imagery brings more to heist tale. De Niro and Kilmer are first rate as the leads in the heist crew, Pacino over acts in places but still brings a lot to his role of the police officer in charging of preventing the crew pulling off any more robberies. The Blu-ray is first rate with an excellent image for a movie that is 15 years old. The sound is typical Mann, loud in places but often rather subdued but it adds atmosphere to the film. I will be watching this movie again and again.
