Heaven & Earth
Oliver Stone Collection
From three-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone -- whose Platoon took you to the Vietnam battlefront and whose Born On The Fourth Of July took you to the American homefront -- comes an acclaimed movie about the fight to survive on both fronts. Tommy Lee Jones and Joan Chen "turn in award-caliber performances" (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone) in the powerful story of a man who fought, a woman who endured...and a love caught up in the explosive wartime upheaval of a land and a people caught between Heaven And Earth.

This film could have used a skillful editor. It is too long, and the "MESSAGE" is too blatant. Yes, war is hell, yes, yes, yes, and yes, the US did wrong in Vietnam, yes, yes, yes. Yes. some of the photography is beautiful, but I almost expected a sub-title saying "this scene is beatiful" to appear, adding to the syropy background music in order to emphasize the point that yes, this is beautiful photography. yes it really is. In the making of this film Oliver Stone was just too self-indulgent,The Human tragedy of War - Stanman
One of the very few movies to portray the Vietnam war from the perspective of the Vietnamese people and ther suffering from all the warring parties. Beautifully filmed, well acted and scripted this movie is based on the true story of a young Vietnamese girl who is forced to endure the horrors and hardship of war. The depth of her story, however, is hard to convey in the 2 and half hours length of the film which does tend to make it feel somewhat disjointed at times. Nevertheless Oliver Stone does enough to help us understand the agony of the common folk who, like most of us, only want to live out their lives in peace. A must-see movie, especially for those that still think war for any reason is "a glorious endeavour"!
