Glorious 80s Cheese-fest - Doom
That's about all this movie is worth. It's entertaining at parts, but usually not for the right reasons. The film has a strong premise, but fails to suspend the audience's disbelief - perhaps that has something to do with the cheesy effects and the cast and crew playing fast and loose with plausibility. Christopher Lambert is cast as a Scot, and Sean Connery as a Spaniard? That's just plain silly.a Classic - FieroGT
This is a great movie the acting is awesome as are the special effects. The sword fighting is intense to say the least. Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery as his mantor are just awesome here but the scene stealer has to be Clancey Brown as the brutal Kurgan he really makes this movie. The story is original and is really well written and the characters are quite well developed some of the effects are just stunning for a movie made in the mid 80'sOriginal version was better - JuicyFruit
I've seen Highlander dozens of times since the first time in the late 80s and it's just an excellent movie- obviously dated now, but taken as a film of its time, it's very cool. This 'Director's Cut' however isn't anything special- often times such versions are much better than the theatrical releases since the director's true original vision is realized, and the constraints of studio executive logic, running time and rating are no longer an issue; in this case the few extra scenes put back weren't really all that good and absolutely didn't improve the film in the least and in two cases actually made it less-good, or at least the film is definitely better without them. Personally, I'd recommend the original version and not this director's cut...
