Hopscotch
"An unusually stylish, refreshingly intelligent comedy!" -New York Daily News
Miles Kendig knows too much. One of the CIA's top international operatives, he suddenly finds himself relegated to a desk job in an agency power play. Unwilling to go quietly, Kendig, with the aid of a chic Viennese widow, puts himself back in the fame by writing a memoir exposing the innermost secrets of every major intelligence agency in the world. The CIA wants Kendig dead, but he refuses to cooperate - he's having too much fun. Based on Brian Garfield's best-selling novel, and starring the inimitable comic team of Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson, Ronald Neame's Hopscotch is a smart and stylish tale of international intrigue and a cat-and-mouse comedy.

Hopscotch follows a CIA agent who is being forced out of field work and told to finish his career behind a desk. Not wanting to push paper for a living, the agent leaves the agency and decides to write a tell-all book about his work in the field.
Our hero, played by Matheau, starts amiling out chapters of his book and leaving clues for his former CIA agent buddies to follow. They're determined to stop him before he finishes the book, but always come up one step behind him.
The film shows its age a little in the clothes and technology, but its setting doesn't really detract that much from the experience. The film is a classic case of what many people would like to do to their boss (taunt him and tell the world what a jerk he is).
The film is more good hearted fun than out-right funny. A sort of classy humour which makes the characters enjoyable without much slap-stick.
I found it enjoyable, well worth watching.A decent book adaptation - Vriesea
This movie is based on the book of the same name by Brian Garfield, who also helped to write the screen play. It follows the book fairly closely, but has a few changes here and there to keep it fresh.
A cold war period piece, Hopscotch is a refreshing change from Hollywood perfection with interesting rather than star actors. The humour is subtle, but amusing and the plot moves along nicely. There are some great moments here and there, and overall it remains a worthwhile choice.More smiles than laughter - Ralston_McTodd
The production values show this film's age, but it's still an engaging movie. You won't order a personal copy, but you won't be sorry for Zipping it either. It's more a puzzle-chase movie than a spy-comedy, but the cast is excellent and the story is well-paced. Good for an evening in, when--as usual--there's nothing to watch on broadcast TV.
