House of Wax
Also Includes the 1933 Technicolor Original "Mystery of the Wax Museum"
A diabolical double-bill of Warner Bros. horror greats!
In the wicked performance that crowned him the movie's master of the macabre, Vincent Price plays a renowned wax sculptor plunged into madness when an arsonist destroys his life's work. Unable to use his flame-scarred hands, he devises a new - and murderous - way of restocking his House of Wax.
The sweet dread and sheer fun of this creepy classic, co-starring Phyllis Kirk, Carolyn Jones and Charles Bronson and directed by Andre de Toth, had its roots in a Warner Bros. chiller from 20 years before: Mystery of the Wax Museum, starring Lionel Atwill as the wax-wielding madman and Fay Wray as a potential victim. Directed by Michael Curtiz and shot in a chillingly effective early two-color Technicolor process, it and its spooky remake offer you a delicious double-dip in a paraffin bath of terror.

THE MYSDERTY OF THE WAX MUSEUM (1933) vs. THE HOUSE OF WAX (1953):
The original version of "House of Wax" was, in my opinion, in many ways better than its remake. The primitive Technicolor process in the original was terrible -- it was 'way too pink (even the snow looked pink) but this version did redeem itself somewhat with its quick-moving plot and snappy dialog. The humor of the original was so much better than than the forced efforts of the remake. Both films were certainly hokey in parts, but the remake was hokier than the the original. Actually, Lionel Atwill was less campy in his role than Vincent Price was in his in the remake. The fight in the wax museum in the original was much more believable than that in the remake. A random question: In the remake why did he villain (Price) limp at fist and then lose the limp later? The 3D gimmick in the remake didn't add to the plot or the quality of the production at all -- it only detracted from it!House Of Wax - movie_goer
House of Wax is Zany, a perfect level of fear, and campy fun for the entire family.
Starring The fabulous Vincent Price as the betrayed wax sculptist. I really liked most was his character who's 4 dimensional. Price effortlessly balanced disturbed, creative and misundrstood all at once. House of Wax is a must see if you like classic Horror or want a change in pace when it comes to movies. Life size Wax statues have always gave me the willies- this just varify's where that core feeling comes from! It's sad because movies aren't made with this amount of thought and quality anymore.the buzz about Vincent - Lily
This was the first scary movie I ever saw as a kid... so when I rented it as an adult I didn't figure it would live up to my memory. This movie is one that allows you to see what all the fuss was about concerning Vincent Price and his horror movie reputation. Sure a with all the gore in today's movies this one will come off as a bit campy but who ever said that was a bad thing?
