Housesitter
She came. She saw. She moved in.
Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn star in this hilarious romantic comedy about the consequences of "stretching" the truth. When architect Newton Davis' girlfriend Becky (Dana Delany) turns down his marriage proposal, his newly-built dream house suddenly becomes nothing more than an empty monument to her rejection. That is, until a chance encounter with Gwen (Hawn) turns his life upside-down.
Intrigued by Newton's story, Gwen visits the house and decides to move in on her own. Resourceful and creative, Gwen is soon fixing up the house and charming Newton's family and neighbors-all the while passing herself off as his new wife! Gwen even befriends Becky, who begins to see a Newton she never knew existed.
Horrified at the deception yet unable to stop it, Newton finds himself playing along with her prepostterous stories, her attempts at reconciling differences within his family and her campaign for his promotion at work. Finally he convinces Gwen to fabricate their "divorce" so he can still get married to Becky- until he has a change of heart.

Goldie Hawn is the true star in this movie as she wins over the hearts of a town who is stuck on their perfect couple (to which she is not a part of!).
The movie revolves around the fictitious lives that Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn's characters have created for themselves.
The movie is sweet as each character brings out a side of the other character that they did not know existed.Housesitter - djfunkybob
This comedy seemed a whole bunch funnier when I first saw it years ago. Far from impetuous, Newton (played by Martin) has been rejected by the love of his life and, after months of despair, winds up having a one-night stand with care-free Gwen (played by Hawn). From that point, Gwen becomes a less-fatal Alex Forrest. While his life is never in peril, Gwen infuriates Newton by infiltrating his hometown, sticking her nose in family business, draining finances, and meddling with Newton’s true love. You don’t need an apple to fall on your head to realize you should distance yourself as far as possible, but Newton keeps getting drawn into Gwen’s con. All the characters convene during the party finale with a comedic mess and a disappointing conclusion.Tangled Web - thenewguy
This film has a lot of good things going for it: great cast, good story and interesting characters. Most of the time it produces a funny, endearing combination. Other times it falls a little short.
The story kicked off with Newton breaking up with his girlfriend (after building her a house) and having a one-night stand with Gwen. Gwen turns out to be a first rate con artist who travels to Newton's freshly built house outside the city and decides to move in. Using what little information she knows about Newton, Gwen cons the community into giving her food and furniture by claiming to be Newton's wife.
When Newton finds out he's "married", he's upset at first and then decides to use his new make-believe status to make his ex-girlfriend jealous. The lies continue to grow and the stories become increasingly big and complicated. Sometimes these whopers are good laughs and other times they're dragged out to the point they're no longer funny.
Martin and Hawn play off each other well and this film makes for a cute romantic comedy.
