How to Get Ahead in Advertising
Two heads are not necessarily better than one in this "highly entertaining" (The Hollywood Reporter), "blistering" (Los Angeles Times) satire about a man brought to the edge of insanity by a rival out for control of his career... and his body!
To hotshot ad exec Dennis Bagley (Richard E. Grant), people are pathetic sheep to whom he can sell anything... except a brand-new pimple cream. Creatively blocked, Dennis becomes so stressed that he sprouts a pimple of his own... a pimple that eventually grows into a huge head with a mind and a voice! Before long, the sassy carbuncle takes over Dennis' life, revealing to him a diabolical plan to control the masses. Now Dennis must find courage deep within himself to save society - and himself - from the beastly blemish!

Made me laugh in this 'is this for real?' sort of way. I am no expert in British comedy, but hilarious how the movie took itself so seriously even though it was really out there. You would think it was cheesy, considering it is about a man's battle with a boil, but I think it was successful in transcending the cheesy aspect and just being fun to watch. In the end, it was totally captivating and has become a favourite.a hoot - busychick
To sum it up, this is a very funny film.
Good for a few laughs if you're into British comedy and the dry sense of humour.
Richard E. Grant is hilarious, fighting with a boil that's appeared on his neck, which is also his alter-ego. Rachel Ward as the bewildered wife, is also very good in this movie."boiling"with wit - jawbone
Richard E Grant is absolutely captivating in this very dark look at the advertising business. Although it is thoroughly British, this film adresses all that is corrupt and morally bankrupt in the ad biz globally. The scene in which Grant single-handed produces a "pustule" commercial in his office is an absolute classic! A must-see for anyone with a bit of nasty sense of humor.
