Imaginary Crimes
When a father doesn't live up to his dreams...a daughter has to stand up for hers.
Ray Weiler is a charmer who could sell cookies to Girl Scouts. He knows he'll strike it rich if he just keeps hustling. What he doesn't know is that his pie-in-the-sky schemes are separating him from the family he so dearly loves.
Harvey Keitel (U-571, Little Nicky) leads a marvelous cast, portraying Ray in a quietly powerful performance hailed as "fresh," "devastating" and "nothing short of remarkable." Fairuza Balk (American History X), Kelly Lynch (Drugstore Cowboy), Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket), Chris Penn (Rush Hour) and Seymour Cassel (Rushmore) co-star in this acclaimed movie that's "terrific...exquisite...eloquent. A touching portrayal of love" (Caryn James, The New York Times).

Nostalgia, autobiographical story of growing up in USA - Porkchop
Imaginary Crimes (1994) has exactly the same pacing and a
reminiscing of one's childhood and upbringing as"Divine Secrets of
the Ya-Ya Sisterhood", although the story, location, and everything
else are entirely different.
This work is not in itself, what the public would consider
entertainment, or prepared to spend cash on for an evening of fun,
at the movies, due to the nature of subject and underlying
nostalgic mood.
That is not to say the release is entirely without merit, as the
movie serves a purpose of balancing the body of published works or
movies; that not everything in life surrounds action, drama, pure
comedy, etc.
As such, the calling attention to the stuggles of the everyday man,
being widowed (man or woman), raising children, and everything else
that follows that has merit.
That involves a struggle to survive, to succeed when placed in
difficult circumstances, with few resources, material or human.
At the end of the day, the will and spirit to survive and to
succeed, is assisted by the joy of being alive , which assists
greatly those who might not have every toy, luxury, luck or
comfort.
Harvey Keitel plays Ray Weiler, a man who has his own demons to
control and to conquer, as he struggled to make a place for himself
in the world, all the while maintaining a household, raising 2
girls, here played by Fairuza Balk and Kelly Lynch, both
exceptionally talented, on screen.
Overall, the actors and actresses are skillful, the music
soft-spoken, the capacity to pace and tell a purely
autobiographical story (which, in itself, might be a technique and
not rooted in reality) is very well done.
The only question is the deeply introverted nature of this movie,
being interesting to the public, as the author mulls over a distant
childhood, and the nostalgia surrounding loved ones that mattered
deeply to her in another time and space.
