The Making of Super Speedway puts you behind the cameras, letting you explore the movie magic of making a groundbreaking documentary in the largest film format in the world. A revolutionary chapter selection menu gives you the option of jumping scene by scene from in front of the cameras to behind the lens.
Super Speedway was originally filmed in the IMAX format and distributed in IMAX theaters around the world. This DVD version of the film, digitally mastered and transferred using the original IMAX film elements, has been produced in a manner that surpasses the traditional industry standards.
The IMAX sound components, which include two different language versions, have been specially mixed down to Dolby Digital 5.1 and a brand new DTS surround mix to produce a heart-pounding audio experience in a surround home theater set-up.

Super Speedway May Not Have As Much Action As It Suggests - TheShamus
IMAX does a good job of creating short documentary pieces ... which are long enough to take advantage of the terrific visuals of an IMAX screen ... along with the excellent sound qualities. All of these releases to DVD suffer from the fact they are not playing on a screen several stories high -- as they are originally intended. Therefore, the short subjects have to be interesting enough to overcome the fact you may not have a large screen TV or a digital sound converter.
To some degree, the documentary is successful as a DVD release. The DVD is about how a new INDY car is designed ... as well as Mario Andretti seeing the old car he used to race --- restored to its original glory. There are plenty of driving scenes in the first person ... where it feels like you are in the car --- but again ... this experience is only as good as the system you are playing it on. On the 29 inch old JVC tube television in my bedroom ... I can't tell you I felt the sensation of movement.
Paul Newman does the voiceover for the production ... and it's fine. Although there is a fair amount of action ... this is mainly documentary type footage -- so keep that in mind when you rent. Race fans can see how a car is designed from scratch to fit the specifications of the driver etc. If you are not a race fan, you might be casually entertained for the 40 or so minutes.

Like all the other Imax Documentary I rent,
it s around 40 minutes, the rest is documentary about the documentary. But this time the images are wonderful and the DTS track crazy, you think you are in the car it s so GOOD !
If you like car race you have to rent this DVD,
the feel of speed is so real RENT IT !

it s around 40 minutes, the rest is documentary about the documentary. But this time the images are wonderful and the DTS track crazy, you think you are in the car it s so GOOD !
