On his ninth birthday, Omri is presented with many gifts -- the most unusual being a cupboard. But this is no ordinary wooden box. It is endowed with magical power that transforms Omri's plastic toy figurines into living creatures. The first miniature to be animated is a 19th Century Iroquois warrior named Little Bear, who is terrified at first by his alien surroundings, but soon bonds with his gigantic playmate. But when Omri's friend Patrick gets in on the act and brings a six-shooting cowboy (David Keith, U-571) to life, their fantastic secret is in danger of being revealed. The Indian In The Cupboard is terrific family entertainment from director Frank Oz (Bowfinger) and Melissa Mathison, the writer of E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial.

I remember seeing the movie in theatres, My mom made me read the book first so that i would understand the underline of the story. (Best advice she could give me- or else you won't appreciate it's storyline).
Warning: Indian in the cupboard is gapped in the middle too mature for younger audience but formulated for adolesences. There is scenes of violence, discussion of Death, killing and racial comments. Some youngster maybe offended.
Well established Author Lynne Reid Bank's agreed to adapted her Childern's book with the help of Frank Oz, who's Best known for collaberating alongside Jim Henson. However Indian in the Cupboard was Oz' first movie solo project. Oz Choose to stray from Puppettering and introduce CGI's special effect's. IE: Making Little foot (Litefoot) appear smaller in size than normal. The out come is mildly stunning, but keeps you entertained none the less.
