Instinct
One man's mind is another man's mystery.
Don't miss Academy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Cuba Gooding, Jr. in this highly provocative psychological thriller from the hit-making director of Phenomenon and While You Were Sleeping! In a prison for the criminally insane, deranged anthropologist Ethan Powell is set to be examined by a bright young psychiatrist, Theo Caulder. Driven by ambition and a hunger for the truth, Caulder will eventually risk everything - even put his very life on the line - in a harrowing attempt to understand the bizarre actions of this madman! Also starring Donald Sutherland and Maura Tierney in a first-rate cast- Powell and Caulder's adventure of the mind is a riveting journey of discovery... no matter what the cost!

Such a fantastic film! The acting is superb and the storyline is intriguing. Anthony Hopkins is spectacular as always.
Anthony's character goes to Africa to observe mountain gorillas. He sacrifices everything for his search knowledge thus losing his relationship with his daughter and wife. Formerly an anthropologist he is now leaving the jungle as a mute wild man charged for the murder of two park rangers.
Gripping and chilling, Instinct is a must watch! This film is BAD! - ZombieInvasion
What do you get when you cross "Guerillas in the Mist", "Shawshank Redemption" and "Silence of the Lambs"? A complete mess!
This is not a diss on "Ishmael" which I've heard is a good book, but this movie manages to be both dumb and pretentious, which is a pretty bad combination in my book.
Jon Turtletaub, the filmmaking wizard who brought you "National Treasure", could not direct has way out of a paper bag. But at least "National Treasure" understood that it was not supposed to be taken seriously.
The first half of "Instinct" rifs heavily on Hopkins performance in "Silence of the Lambs", with Cuba Gooding Junior playing his retchingly sincere psychiatrist. Then the movie takes a left turn and enters its ernest guerrila/prison movie phase and the movie gets really really DUMB. I don't know if watching Hopkins, pine for his lost guerilla tribe is comedy or tragedy, the tragedy being the debasement of his otherwise fine acting career.
This is the kind of movie I would double bill with "Battlefield Earth" or "The Planet of the Apes" remake. Bad Bad Bad Bad.Great ! If you read Ismael... - Gaia
I really enjoyed this movie, the second time around. I first watched it a couple of years ago and it didn't leave much of an impression on me because I forgot most of it.
However, I recently read two of Daniel Quinn books, "Ismael" and "My Ishmael" and watched Instinct again having been told that it was inspired by the first book.
I must say I understood much more of the movie's symbolism and it made quite a difference.
Read the book (which in my opinion should be read by everybody) and then watch this again !
