Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
The original nightmare that threatened the world.
Something evil has taken possession of the small town of Santa Mira, California. Hysterical people accuse their loved ones of being emotionless imposters, of not being themselves. At first, Dr. Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) tries to convince them they're wrong...but they're not. Plant-like extraterrestrials have invaded Earth, replicating the villagers in giant seed "pods" and taking possession of their souls while they sleep. Soon the entire town is overwhelmed by the inhuman horror, but it won't stop there. In a terrifying race for his life, Dr. Bennell escapes to warn the world of the deadly invasion of the pod people!

Not what I expected (in a good way) - Pumon
This wasnt a movie that I rented for myslef but I was around when it was playing. I sat down just for a little while and I couldnt tear myself away. Not what I expected. I thought it was going to be a low budget 60s sci fi but it was actually a very deep and interesting movieA classic - Coconut_Willy
Remade many times openly as the body snatchers or more discreetly with different twists, this movie still stands as a great classic of the genre. I doubt that many people would not know the story even if they never saw the film itself. I have seen this one many times and still enjoy it. The concept is excellent and is very well developed here despite being very '50s in style. All the cliches that you will not see today are present; drinking, smoking, driving straight out of the bar, women badly portrayed as weaker than men and so on... Still, the cast is very good doing a fair acting job with a typical dialogue and stereotypical characters. The sets and locations are appropriate as well as the soundtrack and the camera work. Not much special effects as expected but a very enjoyable viewing experience as the storyline and its escalation are excellent.Cinematic Genius - Film_Prophet1
In the time this film was made, americans were fearing the spread of communism. "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" takes that fear and puts it in the form of pod people. The miracle of this film is that it still scares today.
Just imagine everyone you know are being replaced by emotion-less imposters. A small town is living that fear. The plot is tightly constructed, slowly hightening the tension as souls of simple people are taken away and the survivors must fight to survive and warn the world. Kevin McCarthy is perfect in the role of the pysichian who must stay away long enough to warn the world. When he looks into the camera and yells "There already here! Your Next!" the fear in his eyes and his voice say everything.
