It Should Happen To You
Can an aspiring model find happiness on a billboard?! That's what Gladys Glover (Judy Holliday) finds out in this delightful romantic comedy. Unable to find steady work as a model, Gladys devises an ingenious gimmick: she uses all of her savings to rent a large billboard overlooking New York City's Columbus Circle featuring her name. As it turns out, that billboard is in high demand - Evan Adams III's (Peter Lawford) company wants it for himself. With interest in more than just her career, Adams strikes a deal with Gladys whereby she acquires additional billboard locations. Under the guidance of a slick promoter (Michael O'Shea), Gladys becomes a national celebrity. Then she realizes she must decide between her boyfriend (Jack Lemmon) and his exciting new life.

Holliday was MARVELOUS and the script so clever and the approach as fresh as if it was yesterday. It could have turned ridiculous at any point but maintained its plausibility without missing a beat in its comedic flow. A good film that is certainly gathering more dust than it deserves.A must for someone looking for a film that's accessible and just a bit different.So much fun - Tinseltown_Tess
I love Judy Holliday. One of the saddest things in showbiz history is how little time the world had to enjoy this amazing performer before she succumbed to cancer at a young age. She was a great beauty and a great talent, and if all the proof you'll ever need is right here. It's a relatively weak plot, but Holliday's charm and Lemmon's quirks work very well togther. It's at it's most basic a feel good film, and there is some very good comedy. I enjoyed it immensely.A flick about being famous for being famous - Penguin_editor
The Zip plot synopsis doesn't quite get it right - Gladys Glover doesn't want to be famous so she can boost her career, she wants to be famous for its own sake. So she rents the largest billboard in New York and plasters her name across it in big bold letters. One thing leads to another and soon she’s endorsing soap, making TV appearances, and having aircraft named after her. But is fame enough? Or is her boyfriend right when he tells her, "It’s better if your name stands for something on one block than if it stands for nothing, or something bad, all over the entire world"?
