Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber's Classic Family Musical
For the first time ever, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's fun-filled musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has been specially filmed for video. Inspired by the record-breaking London Palladium stage show, this production stars Donny Osmond, Maria Friedman, Richard Attenborough and Joan Collins. A lively and colorful journey through ancient Egypt, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat follows the rags-to-riches story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. Spectacular visuals and an enchanting score packed with hit songs, including Close Every Door to Me, Go, Go, Go Joseph and Any Dream Will Do make this a dream of a show for all the family.

There are Two Types of People in this World (maybe three) - TheShamus
There are two types of people in this world:
1) People who love musicals.
2) People who hate musicals.
Well ... I'm sure there are some people in between, but "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" is a film for people who love musicals.
This film adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is very "stagey" -- it is not meant to be set up in the "real world". The backgrounds are colouful and somewhat abstract.
The lead is played by well by Donnie Osmond. There is plenty of charisma ... and the 40-something year-old Osmond still looks about 20.
One annoying element of the production for me -- was the extras ... who were "over acting" for the medium of film. On the stage, faces and reactions need to be larger than life -- but on film, the big screen picks of subtle details. It leads to the "bad rap" musicals gets.
If you have seen the musical and like it --- I have no reservations about recommending the film. If you like musicals, but have not seen this, it is really a "hit and miss affair" (eg. If you only saw the musical "Cats" on DVD, would the show still have the same impact?).
If you hate musicals, you are going to hate everything this musical stands for -- artsy, musical spectacle.
If you are looking for a more impressive musical adaptation, I would recommend, "Chicago".
