Then fate gives the Pussycats the chance of a lifetime when band manager Wyatt (Alan Cumming) of MegaRecords signs them overnight to an awesome recording contract. Suddenly, Josie and the Pussycats are living life in the fast lane with sold-out concerts, a number one single and global stardom. But it's not all limousines and private jets. The Pussycats soon discover they're being played like pawns in an evil plot by the record label's maniacal CEO Fiona (Parker Posey) to control the youth of America.

Another Comic Book bites the dust - movie_goer
A satirical comedy with a lot of pop culture references, and a good way of mocking the way people are hypnotized to product placements and media hype.
Alan Cumming was great and funny with his role of the geek guy trying to be a cool singers manager aswell as Parker Posey, she was so hilarious, as the villian who was a nerd in her past trying to convince everyone to like her with subliminal messages in music.
The music was really good, maybe one of the few good things of the movie. The costume design was ridiculous, I mean there's no way peolpe would dress like that. In conclusion this movie would be enjoyable for a boring sunday afternoon and to watch just once.Josie and the Pussycats - much better than expected - Silverthorn
I have to admit, I was expecting a movie that was not great. However, this movie surprised me. It was really funny in terms of making fun of the mainstream music industry: how easy it is to brainwash the youth of America to liking the music that is played and how easy it is to be discovered and made famous literally overnight.
Rachael Leigh Cook, although she doesn't sing the songs, does a great job of acting the scenes out and mouthing the songs. The songs are actually very catchy as it is a grunge-pop-rock type music that you would typically hear.
I actually bought the DVD and the Soundtrack after watching the movie 6 years ago. The humour delivers to me and the story really does make sense in today's world where everyone is focused on becoming famous.
I think this is a very underrated movie and I recommend it to anyone who is tired of the mainstream music business as this movie shockingly is very accurate. The songs are very humourous, and the ones sung by Josie and the Pussycats are quite catchy.
In regards to the DVD, there is a lot of features that would make the fan very pleased as well. Thumbs up.Good Ol' Riverdale - PowaPete
Well, here we have a movie that is slightly better than last year's "Charlie's Angels". Okay, that's not much of a distinction, but I just assume lump the two together because with the exception of a couple minor elements, they're strikingly similar. Both venture toward the lowest common denominator of movie comedy. Both are centered around dimwitted personalities. What gives "Pussycats" a miniscule edge is its sporadic efforts at putting a comic spin on capitalism, although the satire isn't very sharp and too many of the jokes are recycled over and over. (Yeah, we noticed the product placements in the background. Let's move on to the next joke please.)
The movie does start off well. The story opens with a mass amplitude of screaming teenage fans at an airport to catch a glimpse of the fictitious boy band Du Jour. Before departing, the group immediately kicks into a rendition of their hit single (curiously entitled "Backdoor Lover") as their fans scream and cry. They subsequently board the jet with their manager, a sly Brit named Wyatt Frame (Alan Cumming). While flying the friendly skies, a couple band members question an unusual audio track mixed in to their latest CD. Something fishy is happening here, as the question causes Frame to skydive from the plane, ditching his clients for good. ("Take the Chevy to the levee," is the code phrase he says to the pilot, after which they immediately reach for their parachutes.) Now Frame is faced with the task of finding a new band to make famous.
