Killing Zoe
"A Vivid Thriller" -Len Klady, DAILY VARIETY
An American safecracker named Zed (Eric Stoltz) is summoned to Paris by his childhood buddy, Eric (Jean-Hugues Anglade) to help pull a Bastille Day bank heist. Dreams of easy money quickly evaporate when the heist goes sour and Eric transforms into a psychotic, drug-crazed sociopath.
This highly controversial first film by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Roger Avary was an instant cult classic and fast became the barometer by which Generation X gauged its own nihilism.
Killing Zoe is a "must own" dark vision that drags exploitation, kicking and screaming, into the realm of art house cinema -- neither will ever be the same.

I think of Julie Deply as somewhat like the French version of our own Canadian actor Sarah Polley. This film reminds me of "Go!", in which Polley had one of the roles. Totally different story-line but similarly offbeat, fresh, even if it hits you in the face with its rawness and (sometimes) violence--in that respect they are similar movies. The "drug scene" in Killing Zoe is shot in such a way I almost felt high watching it. This is an original, stark film. Good if you like Tarantino-esque stuff. If love Hollywood movies, this won't be for you.Decent heist film - Sonikmike
This is a slick film that capitalizes off the Tarantino revolution in film-making. It is nowhere near as good as anything by Tarantino, but it still has the right formula of action, wit, and acting to make this well worth a watch. Eric Stoltz is definitely an underrated actor usually confined to bit parts, so it is nice to see him in a starring role worthy of his talents (as opposed to garbage like Anaconda.) And Julie Delpy is always wonderful.Killing Zoe - Strat9
I don't mind saying it-this is one of my all time favourite movies and one of the most off beat of the off beat. Eric Stoltz plays a character who, while certainly a criminal, arrrives in Paris to help an old friend, (Jean-Hughes Anglade), pull of a bank heist. Problem is though, Stoltz has no idea that his old friend has become a suicidal, drug crazed, violently crazy anarchist intent on leading a gang of naive losers and him to their destruction. Anglade gives a stunning performance as the friend and the female character, Zoe, is drawn into the madness. This is a film even Tarantino would be envious of. Don't know if it won any awards but certainly deserved several.
