King Kong
The Big Apple is again besieged by the monstrous King Kong. Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange star in this ambitious remake of the 1933 original, which adds a great deal of camp and good fun to the story. Again, the gargantuan ape battles attacking aircraft high above the streets of New York, this time plunging from the top of the World Trade Center to his death amidst thousands of horrified onlookers.

It was a treat to watch this movie and to see Jessica Lang post Face Lift ... and the first half of the movie was really impressive with what the writers and director did with the film,
but i couldn't help to feel disappointed by the second half of the film once they brought Kong to NYC. I found it lame and hard to believe that after running away from Kong Jessica Lang's character begs Jack to take her for a drink in the middle of a city wide panic with a huge Gorilla on the loose, i also hated how this remake changed the classic Empire States building scene to the the World Trade centre.

Oh man this movie is a hoot, for all the wrong reasons of course.
Jessica Lange... oh poor Jessica Lange. Her role is so sexist, I'm shocked she was able to have a career after this movie. She plays the role really well, but there's so little there that she just comes across as really dim and trampy.
The rest of the movie is pure 1970s camp fun. It's a bit too long (read: way too long) but I still had a good time watching it. Wouldn't watch it again though.Better than you think! Well worth a rental! - Zoodles
I actually own this movie; but I would rate this one a rental for most folks.
When many think of King Kong they think of the original with Fay Wray and then the recent re-make with Jack Black et al. However, this little gem from 1976 is out there as well and hold up pretty well on its own.
The best part of this movie for me has to be the brathtakingly beautiful Jessica Lange who just takes my breath away the whole movie. Kudos to Jeff Bridges for an excellent performance as he fights with his conscience while fighting "big oil" at the same time. What I really liked was how the premise behind the journey was updated from the original movie to centre around oil exploration. This was pertinent at the time as the oil crisis was still in many people's minds and oddly enough it is still pertinent today with our concerns about ecology and the availablity and cost of oil today.
This one only got I think 1.5-2 stars on the TMN description; but I really thought this was way too low. While I wouldn't say that it is timeless and classic like the 1933 original it is very enjoyable in its own right and the effects also hold up very well even today.
Well worth a rental and for some worth to own.
