Klute
Lots of guys swing with a call girl like Bree. One guy just wants to kill her.
Directed by Alan J. Pakula (The Pelican Brief, Presumed Innocent), Klute is a spellbinder that's both love story and taut thriller. As detective John Klute, Donald Sutherland gives a cool performance devoid of screen sleuth clichés. And Jane Fonda makes call girl Bree a shattering tour-de-force that swept 1971's Best Actress honors, including the Academy Award®, the Golden Globe and the New York Film Critics Award.

i loved the 1970 style of the film and the music. it has a certain strange and beautiful feel. jane fonda is amazing.a lot of actors who play hookers push it too far, they turn it into a cliche.i though jane fonda explored a deeper side, an intelligent one.i loved the scenes where she was talking to the psychologist.the film had a commentary which was interesting to watch.Well made movie but... - Coconut_Willy
I'm not sure that I get why this film received so much praise. The storyline is interesting but certainly on the 'slow developing' side. Not much excitement here and I don't necessarily mean action. There is an escalation of suspense leading to some sort of climax but the path taken is sometimes a bit odd. One thing that is very well done though is the character development; the main character is explored in quite a bit of depth and the investigation also goes in a lot of details. Some of those details can appear though as a guided tour of New York City. The cast is very good doing an excellent acting job with a well written dialogue. The sets and locations are well chosen and the camera work is quite good. I would not go as far as to say that this film is boring but I thought that it did lack a bit of excitement. Overall, a well made movie that I would recommend to fans of psychological thrillers as long as they don't require too much action or surprising twists.
The transfer to DVD is of better quality than what I expected with very little visible damage. There is a short documentary as bonus that is also quite good.Stands Up to Time - Pat1
well, I saw Klute when it first came out. I remember being truly impressed with the acting and the films slight quirkyness. Years later, I still feel the same way. This time I watched it with my now grown kids and they too thorughly enjoyed it! Fonda and Sutherland are great. She's do good looking and he's so young. As I remember, this was a bit of a breakthrough film given Fonda's edgy role
