La Femme Nikita
"Dazzling! Wildly seductive and erotic!" -Rolling Stone
From director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) comes this "wild and irresistible" (New York Post) thriller about a vicious street punk turned sexy, sophisticated and lethally dangerous assassin. Starring Anne Parillaud, Jeanne Moreau and Jean Reno, La Femme Nikita is "slick, stylish and tremendously entertaining" (The New York Times)!
Rescued from death row by a top-secret agency, Nikita (Anne Parillaud) is slowly transformed from cop-killing junkie into bombshell with a license to kill. But when she begins the deadliest mission of her career-only to fall for a man who knows nothing of her true identity-Nikita discovers that in the dark and ruthless world of espionage, the greatest casualty of all...is true love.

La Femme Nikita - TheWiz
Fabulous French film about an angry young lady living a life of crime, sentenced to death and then snatched away before her execution by a secret agency attached to the government to be trained as a killer. Reluctantly, she agrees and slowly intergrates into society when she is suddenlt called upon to do the most horrible acts of violence which she is no longer capable of doing. Great flick, but here is the sad part. We rented it to watch it in French (this is basically the original of "point of no return" and the thing wouldn't play in French!!! So what's the point!!! What's up with that!!!Femme Formidable - Stitch
and I refer both to the actress and the character. You know the plot and I applaud the kudos. As someone noted, why even attempt a remake? Some cinema works because of a fortuitous mix of many factors; the extra element is called luck. But another aspect sets this apart—there are few instances in action films where a female so effectively dominates the plot. Anne Parillaud has fine support from both Tcheky Karyo and Jean-Hughes Anglade but nevertheless her character absorbs our interest in almost every scene. It even reminds me a bit of Notting Hill; Julie Roberts has possibly one quarter of the screen time and yet ‘where is she now’ is seminal to the tension which drives the love story.
And ever since our meeting Nikita and friends, “Call the Cleaner” is our family mantra whenever the proverbial excrement is headed for the rotating device. Thank you, Jean Reno. On the one hand he is the ultra-effective pragmatist who simply gets the job done and yet along the way we begin to root for him on a very human level. Either superb acting or inspired direction or both, but the result is magic. In fact, by the conclusion we care for all of the principals...which for me is the mark of an outstanding production.
My bride makes the reasonable observation that the heroine went a bit overboard with hysteria towards the end. And I agree; it didn’t quite fit. The director's probable intent is that she's become a loving caring being with normal weaknesses, but some of us hope she’ll still be capable of big bad age eighty. Others felt the personality transition is appropriate.
Finally, observe the mood change between the early scenes and those in the final half. The transition is accomplished seamlessly; it barely registers as it proceeds. No blatant metaphors here; Besson assumes a mature audience.
A winner for all ages excepting pre-teens (due to some early extreme violence).WOW - dee1
A Luc Besson Film. You know right then you're going to be entertained. Anne Parillaud is amazing as Nikita. Bridget Fonda in the USA remake is completely out of her league. Why they would even attempt to do a remake is beyond me. You just don't mess with perfection. And that is exactly what this is. Perfection. The story is amazing, the action scenes are expolsive and the acting is superb. The chemisty between Nikita and her handler is fun to watch. I definitely give it Two Thumbs Up. A Must See.
