Lansky
The Mind That Organized Crime.
The mob has many faces, but only one man is behind them all. Emigrating to America as a child, the young Meyer Lansky learns to fight with his wits and always comes out on top - and at a profit. Starting with a small gang, Lansky soon becomes a big-time gangster when, at the height of prohibition, he joins Bugsy Siegal and Lucky Luciano in creating a crime "syndicate" organizing and structuring crime to make it as efficient as any other business in America. But this is a business more openly crooked than most - and more violent. In their struggle to take and maintain power, not only would those mobsters outside the syndicate pay a deadly price - but sometimes even those within.

I expected so much more of this movie, but in the end... between the flashbacks and the slow pacing of the movie, I gradually lost interest and started FFWing. THis is never a good sign for a movie. I particularly thought that Dreyfuss would draw me in with his performance, but it didn't happen.
It was a waste of my time.Average effort that should have been way better. - filmgeek
Given that the director of this film had a screenplay by David Mamet and a star of Richard Dreyfuss's calibur, this movie should have been a home run. Unfortunately, this movie strolls when it should run. When a scene should be tense, it was played as casual. When a sequence should have been tightly edited, it was for some reason paced quite slowly. I honestly do not understand what the director was aiming for, if he was deliberatly going against the grain for some reason, but the result was quite tame and uninteresting.
There are some good reasons to see this movie, excellent dialogue and the lead performance. Unfortunately, the lack of exposition and the constant jumping between time periods without captions letting the audience know when they are could lead to some confusion for anyone who does not know the characters and the historical events.
Slightly Recommended.
