Life Or Something Like It
"Jolie and Burns exude charisma and chemistry!" -Los Angeles Times
Angelina Jolie and Edward Burns sizzle in this romantic comedy about making choices, making friends and making a mess. Lanie (Jolie) is a beautiful, ambitious newscaster who thinks that having the perfect hair, perfect boyfriend and perfect apartment adds up to the perfect life, until an encounter with a street psychic throws her world into chaos. With the help of her handsome, wise-cracking co-worker Peter (Burns), Lanie must face a destiny as hilarious as it is romantic.

This movie poses the inevidable questions we all seek when thrust upon questionalbe circumstances beyond our control.
This fairy tale glimpse of the "overly-beautiful" woman who must analyze her "life or something like it", fails to hit the mark with me. I would have been comfortable viewing a less attractive, more conventional female sans "bleach blonde stick out like a sore thumb".
Jolie's representation of her character appears to struggle between an arrogant bitchiness while searching for a misplaced compassion. Her genre excels where a "tough as nails and combatant" character is called for (although her weight remains questionable). But I did enjoy Burns who understands the accurate roles which make him believable. This being the crux of movie making regardless of the genre. The film is only as successful and believable as the actors performing the roles.Easily Forgotten... - Zigzag
This was my second viewing of this film. It had made no big impression the first time I saw it as I didnt even realize until well into the movie that I had seen it before.
Jolie looks stunning as always, her character lacks depth until she finds out she could die in a week - but even with this newfound depth she suddenly develops, the supporting actor tells her he sees "The real her" only after a night of her hard drinking whereby she supports a local union and gets them all singing to a Rolling Stones tune. Makes one wonder if the "real her" is only available in intoxicated form. But of course, the movie has a predicatable happy ending and the couple live happily ever after...
Is it worth seeing? I would say yes only if light drama is your thing. Dont expect much and you will get just that!~ CHARMING LITTLE ROMANTIC SOUL SEARCH LACKS DEPTH ~ 3 1/2 Stars ~ - SqueakyChair
SNAPSHOT: Shalhoub is excellent as the psychic bum. Jolie is as Jolie as ever. Even paced. Quirky. Light. Not quite touching. Enjoyable. Not particularly insightful as it could have been.
MORE THOUGHTS: Angelina Jolie and Tony Shalhoub [of Monk TV Series fame] are marvellous, but the film is let down by a very weak male lead in Edward Burns.
FINAL WORD: ~ GOOD BUT SOMEHOW JUST NOT EXCEPTIONAL OR GREAT ~ WORTH WATCHING ~ or SoSaysSqueakyChair
