Logan's Run
"Jazzily effective and even poetic. Logan's Run is fun!" -Vincent Canby, The New York Times
Live it up today, your time is up tomorrow. In the Year of the City 2274, humans forsake the ravaged outer environment by living in a vast, bubbled metropolis. There, computerized servo-mechanisms provide all needs and everyone can pursue endless hedonism. Endless, that is, until Lastday. That's when anyone who's 30 must submit to Carrousel, a soaring, spinning trip to eternity and supposed rebirth.
The screen's first use of laser holography provides some of the sci-fi kicks in this post-apocalyptic saga honored with a Special Achievement Academy Award for Visual Effects. Michael York plays Logan 5, a government Sandman authorized to terminate Runners fleeing Carrousel. Logan is almost 30. Catch him if you can.

Not bad, time for a remake - popcorny
Cast so so, must say the famale star was pretty, and pretty good, the lead, well not so great. The effects not really to bad considering mid seventies (cant all be star wars). The story idea is good and in many was fitting in this over populated consumer hungry world. Of all the movies they seem to be doing remakes of, this one would be great to redue.Movie History - JCasey
There are certain movies that have become must see cult classics. Logan's Run is one of them. Sure today you can go out and see a movie filled with millions of dollars of special effects and often no content. Movies before CGI could not rely on special effects and still manged to entertain, and some are still relevant to today. You owe it to yourself to pay homage to these elements of movie history. Even if you don't end up liking them, at least you can say you saw them (especially at Zip.ca's low price/rental).It's a dystopian disco, baby - wienerdog
In a post-collapse world, Max von Sydow is a robot and everyone lives in a giant domed city that looks like a cross between the Epcot Center and a disco. In this city, there are two things that nobody ever does: wear underwear, and live past 30.
I saw Logan's Run as part of my quest to see every movie parodied in an episode of Family Guy. I was three years old when it was released, so I missed it at the theater. I think there is supposed to be some point about the perils of population control, but Star Trek did a better job of it about ten years earlier. In fact, most of the movie's themes are covered in the original Star Trek and Planet of the Apes. Story-wise, the movie is wholly implausible. The romantic sub-plot is rushed, and things happen for no other reason than they have to to move the story along. The ending makes no sense at all; apparently, if the city central computer doesn't understand something, its default behaviour is to make the whole city self-destruct. No one mentions how a bunch of people under 30 have the knowledge and experience to run and maintain such a technical marvel either.
Still, it is a pretty good movie, as long as you don't take it seriously. The costumes and sets are all quite nice, though they are unmistakably a product of the disco era. The acting isn't too bad, and there is a fair bit of the kind of brief incidental nudity that they did so well back in the 70s. If Logan's Run had been made after Star Wars, it would have been terrible but, all in all, its a pretty fun movie.
