Love Potion #9
"A Lighthearted...Romantic Comedy...Entertaining." -Variety
In this charming romantic comedy, a brilliant but lonely biochemist (Tate Donovan) gets a mysterious potion from a gypsy who guarantees it will turn his life around. After showing it to his co-worker (Sandra Bullock), a shy animal psychobiologist, they achieve amazing amorous results in a chimpanzee experiment. Now the only way to see if it works on humans is to test it on themselves.

If you ever believed that love was only built on a steady trust and respect and that not all relationships begin with out animal, love at first site your wrong. Young unknown Sandra Bullock plays a geeky biochemist. (this movie was made before she became Miss Congenialty.) The movie almost has the same formula, girl unreconized for her looks till she transforms from her shell and becomes every guys fantsy abusing the love potion #9. the movie is sexist and completly unrealistic its kinda cool to think a potion may exist.I can't believe I rented this! If there was a tribunal where filmakers could be charged for crimes against the audience they would throw the book at this disaster and hold the writer/director, producers and talent (and I use this last word generously) in contempt. On the surface, the concept has unlimited humorous and amourous potential, right? But somehow this orphan aimlessly wanders around a few disjointed premises scattering second-hand gags that were telephoned in along with the performances. Unless they only received copies of the script the first day they stared shooting, Donvan and Bullock should be ashamed of themselves. The scenes with Anne Bancroft are charming, but then there's the other 98 minutes of the film you have to suffer through. I'm surprised Ms. Bullock didn't try to purchase the negatives and global distribution rights across all media and have it permanently erased from everyone's memory. There are movies where one person has the objectivity to competently assume the role of writer, director and producer - this is NOT one of them. Aside from that, it's not bad.
