Mad Max
"A riveting classic." -The New York Times
Setting Mel Gibson on a sure path to superstardom, this highly acclaimed "crazy collide-o-scope" (Newsweek) of highway mayhem "cinematically defined the postapocalyptic landscape" (TV Guide). Featuring eye-popping stunts that are "electrifying and very convincing" (Variety) and "an authentically nihilistic spirit" (The Village Voice), Mad Max) is "pure cinematic poetry" (Time).
In the ravaged near-future, a savage motorcycle gang rules the road. Terrorizing innocent civilians while tearing up the streets, the ruthless gang laughs in the face of a police force hell-bent on stopping them. But they underestimate one officer: Max Rockatansky (Gibson). And when the bikers brutalize Max's best friend and family, they send him into a mad frenzy that leaves him with only one thing left in the world to live for - revenge!

Solid Cult Classic - kevo64
This is the movie that unleashed Mel Gibson on the world, personally I'm not sure that was a good thing! This is a solid fun apocalyptic Sci-Fi low budget B movie from Australia, when originally released in the US they dubbed Mel Gibson because they felt no-one would understand his accent. This is a well done thriller in the vein of Death Race 2000 but without the tongue-in-cheek campiness of the Paul Bartel classic. This movie takes itself seriously and has some great chase scenes as well as solid all around acting. The blu-ray transfer is solid, this movie has never looked better, but the limitations of a 30 year old b movie are evident. If you are a fan it is definitely worth a look.Very original cult classic - Coconut_Willy
Despite the low budget situation, this film has some of the most spectacular car/motorcycle stunts that can be found in movies. I had seen many times the 2 sequels but had not seen the original until recently. The overall concept gets a lot of originality points but the development of the storyline is as predictable as it gets. The post-apocalyptic angle is not as evident as in the sequels; Max has a house, goes on vacation with his family and most of the characters are somewhat normal. Watching this film after the other installments that followed makes it look quit tame. The cast is good enough doing the required acting job with a rather odd dialogue at times. The sets and locations are quite good as well as the soundtrack and the camera work. For me, what makes this movie worth watching is the completely mad atmosphere of the film and the excellent stunts. Recommended.A star is born.. - angelicalost
I saw this movie many years ago - when I still rode around with bikers - and it was already a cult legend. The creative/created vehicles, apocalyptic battle scenes, costumes, set - all of it is so low-budget but so realistic given the depiction of a ruined world with no resources...everything has to be scavenged. I saw the movie again last night - many years since I left my biker roots - and still loved it - it's classic road warrior, raw and unsentimental but still offers glimmers of hope...
