This is a very good film, you could see Don Siegel
gearing up to direct "Dirty Harry" soon; even the
French Connection borrowed a little from this. Richard Widmark is in fine form here,also Harry Guardino is quite good here(another Dirty Harry alumni!).Strange to see Henry fonda as a bit of a hard-a** in this; not a simple black and white role.

Directed by Don Siegel (Dirty Harry), "Madigan" covers familiar territory. With New York as the setting, we follow the lives of police officers over a three-day period, as they attempt to arrest a ruthless killer, and save their various personal relationships in the process. Henry Fonda co-stars as the police commissioner, who is trying to keep everything on course. It's a reasonably accurate portrayal of life on the beat, and has just enough intrigue to keep things interesting. A bit melodramatic, but still entertaining. I give it one firm thumb up.
