Mafia!
The Comedy You Can't Refuse!
Taking aim at Hollywood's greatest gangster films, Mafia! Is the hilarious comedy spoof that packs all the laughs you'd expect from the hit-making director of Airplane! And Hot Shots! Lloyd Bridges rules the underworld as the ruthless, powerful...and ceaselessly clumsy...Godfather Vincenzo Cortino. When the time comes to choose the next Don Cortino, however, a riotous rivalry breaks out between his two sons: one a war hero (handsome Jay Mohr-Jerry Magire, Picture Perfect) and the other a raving psychotic! Also starring sexy Christina Applegate(Married...With Children, Mars Attacks!) in an outrageously funny cast-you'll happily die laughing with this dead-on mobster movie parody that offers entertainment you can't refuse!

In accord with the other reviewer, this was no Naked Gun, Airplane, or Hot Shots. The direction was good, the sets were nice, but as in all of these movies, the script is the biggest issue. That is what made these other movies work. The jokes and script here are hit and miss: unfortunately, most of them miss. Most jokes and gags irrelevant and out of place. However, there were parts and awesome lines that made me laugh, which is why I did like it. Decent, but could've been so much more.Like Airplane, except not funny - wienerdog
Airplane! was funny. Naked Gun was funny. Top Secret was the funniest of them all. Mafia! was not funny. It's the same basic idea: a spoof on a movie genre full of goofy gags and non sequitur humour, but in the earlier movies, it was well done, whereas in this one, it's not.
It's not as though Airplane or the other classic Zucker/Abrams/Zucker movies were the height of sophistication: they too relied on sight gags, many of the gags were duds, but the ones that worked made up for it. Mafia's gags are almost all duds, none of them are subtle, many are completely out of place, and it doesn't really have any of the trademark nonsense dialog delivered with deadpan seriousness that the earlier movies had. ("the doctors say he's got a 50/50 chance, though there's only a 10% chance of that" and "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.")
There were a few bits that made me smile, and I think I even chuckled once. But laugh out loud? Shirley you can't be serious.
