Space adventure from the late '60s - Coconut_Willy
I'm not sure if this movie qualifies as a science-fiction film as this is all in all a quite realistic take on space travel advancement for the times. The storyline tries to stay as plausible as possible even though some minor events are a bit far fetched. Obviously, trying to stay realistic does not make for a very exciting movie as this might almost be viewed as a documentary with some drama. The pace of this film is quite slow for the most part but it still makes for an interesting viewing as the suspense escalation is well built. The best aspect of this film has to be the excellent cast doing a very good acting job with interesting characters and dialogue. In my opinion, their great play truly saves this film from ending up being rather long and boring. The sets and locations are good, the soundtrack is appropriate as well as the camera work. By today's standards, the visual effects are not so good but I saw that at the time, the movie won an Oscar for it. Overall, an interesting movie if you're not expecting spectacular and exciting action scenes. The restoration job on this DVD is not perfect but the visible damage is not overly distracting. Recommended.
