When Joe Nast (Gyllenhaal) experiences an unexpected loss, he wants to be the man he believes everyone wants him to be-the dutifully bereaved husband-to-be and the perfect would-be son-in-law to Ben (Hoffman) and Jojo (Sarandon). But then another woman unexpectedly enters his life, and he's torn between fulfilling his new roles and following his heart.

Romantic and touching - Asia
Unlike the other reviewers I loved this movie.
It is not a blockbuster, it moves slowly and is more about the characters and relationships than it is about story line.
I found it very romantic and touching... the relationships are not in any way typical and predictable, a refreshing change from the usual movies where everyone conforms to the "standards" of society.
Sarandon, Hoffman and Gyllenhall all give excellent performances.Promising But Unfulfilling - E
The premise is good, which is why I have always been interested in seeing it, but I heard only so so reviews about it (when they advertise positive reviews from critics I have never heard of, you know it is not that great). The pacing is strange, and the film fails to capture the sense of loss or confusion. A movie to watch when it's on tv on an evening when nothing else is on, but I am glad I did not pay $$ to see it in a theatre.More like Moonlight Bore.... - Banana
Would someone tell me what happened in this movie because I sure did fall asleep at the beginning. I didn't even wait for the movie to start and I was already done with it. I'll admit, I ordered it for Jake Gyllenhaal (?) but really, what a dull movie.
It may be insensitive as the movie has a history behind it, however it could be entertaining as well as heart-felt.
