Moonstruck
Deluxe Edition
Cher is Loretta, an "unlucky in love" Italian widow who finds romance through the intervention of the Manhattan moon. With her wedding to a close friend just weeks away, she meets--and falls hopelessly in love with--his younger brother (Cage)! Her dilemma - and her equally passionate and hilariously eccentric family - make for an unforgettable film.

Rose: Do you love him, Loretta?
Loretta Castorini: Aw, ma, I love him awful.
Rose: Oh, God, that's too bad.
It's the kind of movie you can watch with your grandmother and enjoy without the embarrassment of cursing and sex. Too bad it doesn't just whisk you into a world of wonder - it tries to keep you prisoner. For Loretta, that's fine. She loved her last husband and that caused her nothing but heartache. 'When you love them, they drive you crazy,' her mother explains.
Perhaps I was searching for something entirely different? I wanted fireworks and butterflies- Whatever the case Moonstruck, struck a cord of misery and pain.Meh... - Poet
I must say I was highly disappointed by this movie. It was not bad, but it was not great either. I probably was expecting too much out of this movie that gave Oscars to a couple of the actresses involved. I still believe that the performances in question were not that great.
The story is somewhat compelling and there are some good moments through this movie. I was just very underwhelmed, if that is even a word.Delightful Film for Multiple Demographics Stands the Test of Time - TheShamus
During the period of "Moonstruck", Cher was involved with a streak of quality movies including, "Silkwood", "Mask" and "Witches of Eastwick". In Normal Jewison's, "Moonstruck", it garnered several academy awards including a "best actress" award for Cher.
Moonstruck is the story of a Brooklyn widow accepting a wedding proposal from someone she is not in love with (as she approaches 40 years of age).
One of the more noteworthy aspects of the movie is a very young, "Nicolas Cage" -- who broke through into the mainstream with the esposure from this movie.
In many ways, the movie is timeless. The characters are not always beleivable ... but the story line has some quirks and some laughs to keep it from being the, "same old".
Even if you are not a fan of the romantic comedy genre, this one might work for you -- because it is quite well done. The movie, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is a more modern movie which has a similar feel.
This charming movie ages like a fine wine. It may not be a classic, but it is a cut above average.
