Murder By Numbers
She was the only flaw in their plan.
"Sandra Bullock has never been more original or affecting" (Michael Sragow, Baltimore Sun) as Cassie Mayweather, a homicide detective confronting personal demons while following her instincts about real killers in a Jane Doe murder case. The clues point one way- but the chain of evidence is too perfect.
Police procedure melds with escalating tension in this suspense thriller directed by Barbet Schroeder (Single White Female), Ryan Gosling (The Believer) and Michael Pitt (Finding Forrester) chillingly lay bored rich kids who plan and execute a perfect murder, then watch the police fall for every clue. They figure they've gotten away with it. What they don't figure right is Cassie Mayweather.

What's up with the baboon?
What's up with cops not acting like cops? (The only movie with a worse portrayal of cops in recent memory is Highlander)
Michael Pitt was great. Although it was basically the same character he played in Funny Games.
Rent that one.
The weird voice over sounds when Sandra would "remember".
I say Bullocks!!!!

I did not have very high expectations for this film after reading previous reveiws.
Overall it was average, not excellent, but certainly not terrible. Your run of the mill thriller, with an interesting plot. There is very little action in this one, no car chases, and no big shoot out at the end which for me made a better movie.
The film is actually 155 min's long, not the 120 as stated by Zip, but 120 might have been a better length. There are a few scenes which don't really add anything to the story and just kind of hang.
Overall worth a rental, but I would not purchase or go see at a theater.CSI with more depth - jmikesmith
This film was like an episode of CSI, but with more depth to the characters. The supporting cast didn't seem to be emotionally invested in the plot. The backstory for Bullock's character didn't really gel or do enough to explain her vulnerability to the teen murderers. [Spoiler alert!] There was an implication that the character was in witness protection, but still the "system" knew who and where she was. Our experience of the film was marred by a defective disk (since reported) that skipped or halted from time to time.
Overall, a competent thriller, if a bit flat.
