Trials And Tribulations Of Boy And Filly Will Bring Tears - bwod
As animal films go, this one is a classic. Unfortunately it is a piece of Americana that is lost in time. Unless you can relate to "gosh, gee-whiz, keen!" sort of dialogue, circa 1943, you might want to skip it. However, if you love animal stories, have children, and enjoy the trip down memory lane, then "My Friend Flicka" is worth a look. It certainly is engaging and I had to fight back the tears. Roddy Mcdowell, who starred in "Lassie, Come Home" the same year, does a competent job as the boy who is dying to have his own filly. Recommended with one firm thumb up.No surprises - xonweb
There were no surprises in viewing this movie. I rented it for my 6 year old son to watch, knowing that it was reputed to be a classic family feel-good movie. That is what I wanted for my six year old, and that's what the movie delivers. There were mo surprises... by that I mean, nothing gratuitous that jumps out of nowhere and spoils what could have been a good family movie. No swearing, no nudity, no violence, no commercials carrying their thinly veiled lies. And as a bonus, the movies was actually good enough that I thoroughly enjoyed watching it myself; something that can't be said about all "G" rated movies.
