Excellent Coming-of-Age Drama - ShawnConnery
Classics don't get any more classic then this. Heartwarming portrayal of 11 year old's summer with love, loss, emotions, relationships, and a lot of things stuffed in. Acting great, characters realistic, doesn't feel forced, soundtrack picked very well...All in all excellent family drama.Classic! - MrsH
This is truly a fabulous story. Vada is a young girl, who is getting into her awkward pre-teen phase. She is becoming a young woman, experienceing her first period, her first crush all these hard things. All without a mother. Vada's mother died when she was only a baby, leaving her to grow up with her father (played by Dan Akroyd) who happens to be the town undertaker. Things get more complicated when her dad starts dating again, but Vada comes to learn some of lifes best lessons. With lots of laughs, a great retro soundtrack and some tears this movie is obviously a classic for a reason!My Girl - TheWiz
There is something magical about reliving our youth. This movie will definately transport you back to your childhood days. We all had fears as a young person and we all have to face them. This is one young persons journey on how she faces her fears. Along the way, she awoke her Father who was continuously mourning the loss of his wife while tending to an ill Mother. A new girl friend is what brings him back to reality as he learns to live again. My Daughters did not score this movie very high; 2 1/2 and 3. They both found the plot to be too gloomy. So we settled on a score of 3.
