Mystery, Alaska
"Full Of Action, Suspense And Heart!" -Jason Miller, ABC-TV
With Russell Crowe (The Insider, L.A. Confidential), Hank Azaria (Godzilla, The Bird Cage) and Burt Reynolds leading an incredible all-star cast, here's a fun, uplifting and action-packed story that everyone will love! A remote, hockey-obsessed town populated by 633 of the most eccentric characters you'd ever want to meet, Mystery is the kind of place where nothing ever changes. But then life as they know it gets turned completely upside down! When a publicity stunt brings the world-famous New York Rangers -- and the national spotlight -- to Mystery for a game with the local team of weekend warriors, the whole town rises to meet the challenge of a lifetime! Also starring Mary McCormack (True Crime, Deep Impact) and Lolita Davidovich (Play It To The Bone, Jungle 2 Jungle) in another critical favorite from the hit-making director of Austin Powers 1 & 2 -- you'll stand and cheer as this ragtag bunch shows that nothing can melt their dreams of a miracle on ice!

A Lot, A whole Lot - JudoKitten
"Mystery, Alaska" is sweet, pleasant, low-key, inoffensive and unnecessary. It sticks up for underdogs, nice people and small towns, and doesn't like big corporations, adulterers, TV producers and New Yorkers in general. It contains not only a big game with a thrilling finish but also a courtroom scene, a funeral scene, an innocent teenage sex scene, a change-of-heart scene and a lot of scenery. No one falls through the ice and almost drowns, but we can't hope for everything.Northern Exposure meets The Mighty Ducks - cathyottawa
I give this a mild three stars. I would have prefered something more "Northern Exposure meets Slap Shot", as I think this aspires to be, but just isn't.
It's far too disneyized, and hits far too many sports movie cliches, not to mention Canadian/hockey stereotype cliches.
If it weren't for the well staged, well shot hockey scenes towards the end, and a fun cameo by uber Canadian and hockey fan Mike Myers, and the strange yet enjoyable casting of Burt Reynolds as a hockey coach, this would be two stars at best.
I agree with Baboonvideo, too many interesting characters are introduced, only to be left undeveloped.
Russel Crowe is good in the lead role, and the acting is fine all around - it's the script that needed work here. Not David E Kelley's best effort.Mystery, Alaska - mred
I don't watch hockey. I don't care for it. However, this is the best hockey movie I've seen since slapshot. It has it all: humour, drama excitementand comraderie-all set in an intimate stage of a small town. Throw in the underdog beating the best and you've got a fun, good-time movie with no pretense. It doesn't pretend to make a huge statement. It is what it is...fun-and games.
