Nell
Academy Award winner Jodie Foster "gives a fearless, fierce, beautifully attuned performance" (Time Magazine) as Nell, a young woman living alone in the backwoods of North Carolina. When Dr. Jerry Lovell (Liam Neeson) discovers Nell, he is intrigued by her erratic behavior and unique pattern of speech. Together with a psychologist (Natasha Richardson), Lovell becomes determined to pierce Nell's private world and protect her from a life of scientific study. But he soon discovers that the woman whose way of life he has sought to protect has transformed his own forever.

Both Jodie and Liam have incredibly difficult roles in this film. Nell's created language speaks volumes on both actors' abilities to make believable what could have been disastrous. As well, Jodie plays Nell's innocence of our culture superbly. This movie is well worth the time to sit and watch.Definition of Acting - Duber
Jodie Foster and Liam Neeson are two of Hollywood's most respected actors. This film helps support that theory. Jodie often can stretch her acting capabilities and doesn't usually stick to the same type of character from movie to movie. In Nell she play's a part that few actors could pull off well and does it with beauty. Liam shows passion in his acting which is one of his most gifted characteristics.
This is a tough film and not recommended for the narrow minded who live for dim-witted films. It's deep. It discusses sociological and psychological topics on wild children (or in this case adults) and goes where films haven't gone before.
I strongly recommend this film, but understand most will not appreciate it.Beautiful, but difficult to understand sometimes - imagination201
The moment that Jodie Foster appeared on the screen, mewling incoherently as if she had lost her mind, I wasn't all that certain that I would enjoy that movie, but when Liam Neeson stepped in her life and began to attempt to establish contact with her, I was drawn into it in spite of myself.
The compassion of Neeson's characters, along with his efforts to understand the wild girl is the window through which we also get to eventually understand her, and feel for her, and grow attached to her.
It is also a story of love between two doctors who didn't expect to receive that kind of gift from such a 'wild' child.
All in all, if you like psychological drama and human movies, then don't let the first fifteen minutes of this movie discourage you and keep watching. There is a plot, and there is a key to everything that is going on, a key that, unlike in lesser movies, is revealed to us even before the movie ends.
