Ninja Scroll
"Excellent Top-Of-The-Line Animation..." -Axcess Magazine
Jubei is a masterless ninja who travels the land alone, hiring his services to those with gold... or a worthy cause. His fearsome abilities have served him well, but a hideous plot to overthrow the government threatens to end his wandering ways and possibly his life.
When a small village succumbs to a terrible plague, a team of ninjas are sent to investigate and realize that all is not as it seems. Ambushed, they are wiped out by a fearsome man-monster with incredible powers, leaving only one alive - Kagero, a beautiful female ninja whose touch can bring instant death. Jubei saves her from a fate worse than death and unwittingly becomes drawn into a web of treachery. He is soon faced with his greatest challenge, an enemy for whom death holds no fear with the power to destroy Jubei's world. It's an all-out bloodbath when ninja warriors come face to face in this action-packed tribal war.
Ninja Scroll features a wicked cast of characters, extraordinary fight scenes and stunning animation from Yoshiaki Kawajiri and MadHouse Studios!

Pretty good, not amazing. - Falantar
I enjoyed it, though I found it to be a little overrated. The movie was well done but there could have been more action, fight scenes were quite short, no real epic battles. Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie if you like this dark, gory, perverted style of anime.THE ULTIMATE ANIME!! - mumbles
Ninja Scroll takes place in feudal japan and is about a war with a masterless ninja whom travels the land (Jubei) accompanied by beautiful female ninja whose touch can bring instant death (Kagero) and an annoying--but wise old man (Dakuan). The three encounter various ninja warriors (8 in total) and eventually each is basically killed in really cool ways...
Moving on, in comparison to Wrath of the Ninja--this film is kickass... hands down. I had never seen Ninja Scroll before, only Wrath of the Ninja... I was really missing something in my life... as Wrath of the Ninja was a bit too basic, a bit dark and boring. The beauty of Ninja Scroll is it's colour and direction of animation... not to mention the surround sound (English audio). This is followed up by the immense amount of blood and nekkid women. To say the least it's a crowd pleaser.
Moving on to the DVD details, the only thing I noticed in comparison to the VHS (which I taped in EP) and the DVD is the detail in the colour blending. Other than that... it's just as good. If you're looking for extras... there's not much there really. There's brief bios for the characters, a trailer (in Japanese) and two commercials for Manga. But if you're a KMFDM fan like I am... you'll take interest in the Manga video commercial with crystal clear audio and video. The only drawback to this package is that it's only presented in full screen and not widescreen. That and the disc art sucks.
But other than those... it's worthy of slapping down 20 to 35 bucks. Especially since it's one of the all-time greatest animes and easy to comprehend (much easier than Akira!). This is one of many reasons why Madhouse is MY style for anime--also check out Wicked City, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Bio-Hunter & Demon City Shinjuku.Anime at its best - Brona
This has to be one of my all time favorite anime movies. If you like odd anime humour, loads of violence and a bit of needless sex scenes then this movie is for you. The characters almost all have strange powers. Remember this is a cartoon, and anything can happen.
