Norma Rae
"Sally Field gives a funny, tremendously affecting performance with moments of startling anger and power." -David Denby, New York Magazine
In an Oscar®-winning performance, Sally Field is unforgettable as Norma Rae, the Southern millworker who revolutionizes a small town and discovers a power in herself she never knew she had. Under the guidance of a New York unionizer (Ron Leibman) and with increasing courage and determination, Norma Rae organizes her fellow factory workers to fight for better conditions and wages. Based on a true story, Norma Rae is the mesmerizing tale of a modern day heroine. Beau Bridges co-stars.

Feilds out of her element and yet shining! - movie_goer
A fantastic social drama, and still relevant today too! Field is perfect, Sally Field makes her outstanding performance (she won her first Best Actress Oscar) as a southern textile work attempting to unionise the mill with the aid of organiser Ron Leibman.
This film is in no way a documentary(lightly based on a true event), but the filming style and plot line lend to using its emotions to guide its way. Sally Field's acting in this movie is impeccable. Beau Bridges is also great as Sonny. The script is incredible. Martin Ritt did an excellent job directing the movie. I highly recommend this film, its impossible not to Love Sally Fields.Solidarity Forever - SAllende
I am somewhat surprised that Hollywood studio corporations green-lighted this film considering its very labour-friendly stance.
Norma Rae is a fairly good movie, and Sally Field's chracter (Norma Rae) is more complex, multi-layered that I thought she would be.
The story moves along quickly and the two main characters interact well-together. The scenes in the factory are the highlights of this film as it really felt authentic and honest.Good Ole Sally - FilmJunkie
The always-over-the-top Sally Field stars as the title character in this film about unions in the South and the lengths that people had to go to so that they could recieve benefits and the like. The topic has been covered in other, better films here, but there is something so deliciously and uniquely 70's about this film and the tense relationship between southern Norma and Jewish union man Reuben (Ron Leibman). It is also nice to see the reason why Beau Bridges was cast in movies, back then he was kinda hot!
