Northfork
"4 Stars! A masterpiece! A visionary epic!"-Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
Haunting imagery, masterful storytelling and riveting performances by an all-star cast led by Daryl Hannah, Nick Nolte and James Woods highlight this critically acclaimed film from the creators of Twin Falls Idaho.
The year is 1955, and the town of Northfork is about to be flooded by the waters of a new hydroelectric dam. Most of the town's inhabitants have left, but a few stragglers remain, among them a religious zealot with two wives and one ready-to-sail ark; a conscience-bound minister; and a frail orphan boy whose fevered visions have convinced him he's an angel. Assigned the task of moving these holdouts are the Evacuation Teams, mysterious, black-clad men with a personal stake in clearing the town. As the characters' lives slowly converge, we are transported to a wondrous landscape that exists somewhere between dream and reality...and swept into an unforgettable saga of longing, loss, faith and reawakening.

Disappointing and pretentious - morphiston
This was sheer torture to sit through - a waste of good actors. The director clearly had a "vision" that resulted in a pretentious and empty, meandering, extremely slow-paced film whose message will be lost on everyone else. I can usually find something to redeem most movies, but in this, neither the writing nor the acting come through.Sorry - nelson95
Strong emsebele cast, some compelling acting but the lack of story line consistantly annoyed me too much to like this movie.I did watch the whole thing though.
Could not wrap my head around the overlap of fantasy and reality in this DVD.
thats it. ByeAmbitious Failure - CarlQ
A bizarre film, with interesting Theatre of the Absurd elements. Intentionally stylized acting, from the very formal, almost Greek theatre style all male "chorus" to some pretty wierd individual characterizationa. Dali-like surreal landscapes set against silly country and western song cuts. But it just never jells into anything consistenly thematic, and it finally just runs out of steam.
