Not Without My Daughter
"Spellbinding, Nail-Biting, Heart-Rending Tension." -Patrick Stoner, "FLICKS"/PBS-TV
Two-time Oscar® winner Sally Field adds another powerful acting triumph to her gallery of great roles in the suspense thriller Not Without My Daughter, a riveting true story of terror and escape.
Betty has come to the Middle East with her daughter and native-born husband (Alfred Molina, Species) for a visit with his family. But soon the horrible truth about the "vacation" surfaces. Betty's husband doesn't intend to bring his family back to America...ever. She may return, he says, but their daughter must stay. And he has centuries of local custom and the oppressive might of a police state behind him. As a stranger in a foreign land, Betty has no money, no friends and no rights. But she does have an unconquerable will. In a hostile, war-torn country, where even the slightest misstep can mean death, she makes a desperate bid to escape with her child. Her story, her courage and her ultimate triumph are unforgettable.

This well crafted drama takes place shortly after the Iranian hostage crisis installed Ayatollah Khomeini as ruler.
Sally Field lives in Michigan with her young daughter and husband, who is a doctor and an Iranian citizen. When he wants to return home to see his family after 10 years, Sally Field reluctantly agrees. Unfortunately, he decides to stay and the wife discovers that she has no rights in Iran.
Sally Fields' performance is the best I've ever seen her do. The direction is great and the oppressive atmosphere in Iran at that time is very believable.
I highly recommend this older, but exceptionally good film. The fact that is based on a true story adds to the enjoyment.Excellent - bbryon1
Excellent! This movie had me glued to my screen. I could only imagine what she must have gone through, being with someone you trust to have them turn against you while you are on their grounds and miles from home or anyone who knows you. The betrayal itself must have been excruciating and terrifying at once. Sally Field is an excellent actress and seems to fully throw herself into her roles. I would recommend this movie to all.Never want to go there!! - hilkayaker
I thought the movie was good. Left out some parts of the book but I thought it was still pretty accurate. Made me really question who I want to marry and if I'll ever visit their country! Usually not a Sally Field fan, but I thought she did a good job in this movie.
