Nurse Betty
She's chasing a dream...they're chasing her.
Betty never misses an episode of her favorite soap opera, "A Reason to Love." After a mind-altering run-in with two hit-men while watching an episode, Betty transforms into "Nurse Betty" and embarks on a mission to find her one true love, Dr. David Ravell.
Follow Betty on a wild and hysterical cross-country trek in search of the man of her dreams. But, can Betty find him before the hit-men find her?

I agree with Cathy from Ottawa: this was very worthwhile. Zellweiger is excellent, as is Freeman. The story is funny, sad, enagaging, keeps your interest, is unbelievable but on the other hand, it just might show what can happen when one person loses her grip on reality. Sometimes it can have a domino effect, and eventually it's possible for a bunch of people to be tangled in a plot none of them is aware of completely. Chasing dreams, chasing dragons? Nurse Betty is great. Not a great or ambitious movie by any stretch, but a great entertainment nevertheless.Funny and engaging - Curmudgeon
Some engaging acting combined with a well written scrip results in a worthwhile comedy that will keep you amused and chuckling.
Not a great movie and it doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is - a somewhat off the wall comedy.
Amusing as well when you think of all those we know who sometimes think their favourite soap is real. Can't be pigeon holed. - cathyottawa
I would hesitate to call this a comedy (despite the presence of Chris Rock). I wouldn't even call it a dark comedy. I'd call this a straight up drama.
Renee Zellweger created a lot of buzz with this performance. Many thought she would be nominated for an Oscar. She wasn't, but she did win the Golden Globe.
She strikes just the right note here as a small town girl who neither demands nor expects much out of life. Her one real joy is her daily escape through her favourite soap opera.
Something happens to her husband that she witnessess. I won't give it away in case you haven't read the many spoilers, suffice to say it's something shocking and horrifying. Betty goes into shock, and in her tramatic state, she escapes once again to her soap opera world, only, this time, she really believes she's one of the characters on the show.
This may sound funny, but it's really not played for laughs. Zellweger does an excellent job of making you care about this character, and worry for her safety and sanity.
Morgan Freeman is the other standout in this movie. He's got a great character here in a philosophical hit man.
The writing is fresh, and the way the story develops, while fantastical, is believable. Give this one a chance. You won't be sorry.
