Of Mice And Men
We have a dream. Someday we'll have a little house and a couple of acres. A place to call home.
John Steinbeck's classic comes magnificently to life in this beautiful and stirring film starring Oscar nominees John Malkovich and Gary Sinise. Directed by Sinise from an adaptation by Oscar winner Horton Foote, this "flawless miracle of movie-making" (Susan Granger, American Movie Classics) is a must-see for all audiences.
Best friends Lennie (Malkovich) and George (Sinise) find themselves unemployed in Depression-era California, unable to keep jobs because of Lennie's childlike mentality. But once they get hired at the Tyler Ranch, they enjoy a brief period of stability-until their supervisor's wife (Sherilyn Fenn) becomes the victim of Lennie's compassion, forcing George to make a compassionate decision of his own.

Beautiful retelling of beloved story. - cathyottawa
Gary Sinise is a huge Stienbeck fan. He has acted in stage productions of The Grapes of Wrath, and Of Mice and Men at the theatre he co-founded (the Steppenwolf in Chicago); in fact, he and John Malkovich played the same characters together on the stage.
So it was really a dream come true for him to be able to star in, and direct this movie - and he does a fantastic job at both.
It's hard to pin point just what this movie is really about; this is one of those works of literature that has been studied to death, with all sorts of theories as to the symbolism and themes of the novel.
Sinise just presents the story - simply, but not simplistically. He really lets the work speak for itself. The result is a telling that's engaging, haunting, sad, and beautiful. A crowning achievement in his young career.Great Adaptation - Joaner
This is an excellent adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel of the same name. Gary Sinise (now of CSI New York fame) is the director and producer, as well as playing George in the movie. I found that what stands out in this film is the casting....using John Malkovich as Lenny, Walston as Candy and so on....excellent choices, great directing as well. Check out the documentary of this film....full of really great info!
