How many capoeira movies are there? - Blob
How many capoeira movies are there? So it isn't as if you have much choice. There are some films with a little dash, like "The Quest" but that is it.
Doesn't look too efficient but it looks great on screen. Too bad nobody ever used capoeira to base a movie career on as Seagal did on Aikido. Really, if that wooden box of an actor can make a movie career on aikido, someone should be able to do it for capoeira.
As for the movie. Formalistic, but interesting story. A bit lame at the end, a final victory which when you think of it should never have happened. How did he go from getting beat down to winning with no extra training or anything?
However you don't watch a movie like this to think, but to enjoy some interesting action with hopefully enough plot to keep it interesting. Movie hits it on these grounds. Also the action scenes tend not to be too excessively long which is a plus in my books.Interesting choreography - FamilleGimbert
This movie is standard in its story (cool military-style guy comes to high school to coach the bad kids and they become good). The acting is also not that great. But, the martial art showcased in this film along with the music that goes along with it is pretty cool! I've never seen it in action before and I enjoyed watching it.Beautiful Choreography - StoneAxe
This movie is one of my all time favorite movies, if not my favorite. Don't expect great acting, or superb cinematography, but the opening and closing sequences are just fantastic to watch. Mark Dacascos plays the role of a Green Berret returned home to find his community over run by a Drug Lord using local teens to distribute his product and intimidate others. So he takes a job to teach these youth self control and respect through martial arts, capoeira, to be exact. The martial arts style is native to Brazil where peasents used to practice capoeira by claiming it was a dance, and what a dance to watch! Capoeira demands control of the practitioner when sparring with non-combative opponents. The combatants perform moves as close to connecting as possible without actual contact. The traditional music that accompanies these sparring sessions has a catchy earthy beat that tugs at the spirit. I strongly encourage you to give this movie the chance at least once just to experience the beautiful choreography of the capoeira for yourself.
