Path To War
While one war was being fought in Vietnam another was being fought in the White House.
Path To War tells the inside story of how "the best and the brightest" advisors in the Johnson administration, including Defense Secretary Robert McNamara and special advisor Clark Clifford, counsel the President in the decisions that will lead to America's deeper and deeper engagement in Vietnam.
Torn between those who recommend increased bombing to win, and those who advise a path be found to peace, Johnson watches as his presidency and his nation are torn apart by the deaths of young Americans overseas and the protests of those who remain.

Michael Gambon renders a masterful performance as LBJ in a movie which takes us into the oval office as Vietnam slowly consumes LBJ's "Great Society" initiatives.
The movie begins with LBJ's election where he's seen dealing with racial tensions in Alabama and progress with his "Great Society" initiatives. We feel as if we're really there in the room with LBJ, Crude and belligerant one moment, compassionate and seductively charming the next.
The acting is simply spectacular, Gambon IS LBJ.
By the end of the movie you are left with a sense of understanding how America was literally sucked into Vietnam by inches, suddenly finding itself in it up to it's neck, unable to simply get out.
This movie is Definately a must see for anyone remotely interested in American Politics, LBJ or Vietnam, or frankly anyone who enjoys brilliant character acting.A- - RPM-
Michael Gambon did an excellent job as Lyndon Johnson and giving the gen-x'ers a view into his real personality (he hated the Kennedys).
The film focuses mostly on Vietnam and civil rights and brings you into what it was like during those days leading up to Americas increased involvment into the vietnam war.
The side characters are just as compelling, as we see how a once more peace minded McNamara became pretty much a war monger thirsting for power. We see how easily Johnson was influenced by the joint chiefs, Mcnamara and Clifford.
