I chose this movie because it's been on most Scary Movie lists on IMDB, and I can honestly say it was really disappointing. I guess it's cause they launch you in the movie as soon as it starts. Takes too long to get to the villain and is pretty predictable. Either way I wouldn't watch this again, it took me 3 days to finish watching up (kept napping).Amazing book that should have been big screen - The_Gauch
I have many of Dean Koontz's books and I must say that Phantoms was probably my favourite. Koontz's stories often mix horror with fantasy and science fiction quite well. Several of his stories have been made for TV movies. That is the real problem with this movie - it needed a much bigger budget to put it properly on screen. The screenplay was not nearly as good as the book. Much of the suspense in this novel was the sense of isolation (both physical and mental) and the unknown which is lost in this movie. Many of the actors are good but unfortunately the screenplay, directing, and special effects leave much to be desired. This is a movie that should be re-done on the big screen.Phantoms: Rented mostly by Jay And Silent Bob viewers. - dajhorn
Like the most other reviewers, I watched Phantoms because it was mentioned in the Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back movie. Past that, Phantoms is an undistinguished shock-horror flick that probably should have gone straight to video.
Several parts of the Phantoms story were nearly non-cliche. The truth about the phantoms was an interesting twist, and the "rewrite the gospel and tell the world" part had potential, but it seemed like the writers were reluctant to really explore any religious issues.
Phantoms suffers from "deus ex machina" plot resolution and bash-you-over-the-head expository dialog like any poorly written movie.
