Playing God
Joining this dangerous underworld was easy. But getting out...deadly!
It's high-voltage thrills as hot X-files star David Duchovny and new big-screen bad boy Timothy Hutton square off in an edgy confrontation where the stakes are high...and the action is deadly! Duchovny plays Dr. Eugene Sands, an ex-surgeon lured into a dark underworld by a hip -but lethal- mob caught in a web of murder and mayhem...and growing far too close to the mobster's seductive mistress, played by sexy Angelina Jolie. It's a potent action thriller where passion and deception meet in a battle between good and evil.

Playing God......David Duchovny was cool and crafty! - Berto1973
Some may not agree with me and that is fine. Timmothy Hutton and David Duchovny in this movie was greater in my oppinion desirved at least a 4 star rating and I will tell you why. David X-files star in which I loved and still love played a doctor who lost his license due to drugs and Timmothy which deals in drugs felt a common problem and solution. A progressing two way understanding and differences that seem to me that gelled pretty good made this movie better than which it was rated. I loved it and would watch it again unlike most movies I wouldn't.Wrong Casting. - Beast
Duchovny is fine in this film but I think he was cast mostly for his X-Files fame at the time. He's not exactly the most charismatic lead actor.Hutton is scary, but doesn't have much to do except act scary. Smart, funny script with interesting original premise of the doctor forced to work for criminals. The movie wanders, though, as there's no real central plotline. Great dialogue, but maybe the subsidiary characters are more interesting than the main characters. Script is dramatic/comedic; movie is played down, but the choice to do so seems to have robbed the movie of much-needed juice. The stakes don't seem to be too high for any character. Direction is competent, but doesn't match the script.Good... but not great - Mark2
With an attractive cast and a promising premise, I expected this movie to be good if not great. It reaches "good" status but certainly falls short of "great." Probably the most disappointing aspect of this movie was the "flatness" of its characters. You didn't really hate the "bad guys", and you didn't really like the "good guys." Angelina Jolie's performance was particularly disappointing as I have come to truly admire the power of her acting personality (Tomb Raider in particular). The movie's plot is also transparent and rather unexciting. All that said, it was still enjoyable (thus the "good" rating) and merits a viewing if you are at a lose of what to watch some Saturday night.
