An Erotically Charged Descent Into Madness
Based on Herman Melville's 1852 novel Pierre: or the Ambiguities, filmmaker Leos Carax (Lovers on the Bridge, Mauvais Sang) presents an ambitious tale of one man's search for the truth in a vague world. A young, successful author (Depardieu) is haunted by a recurring dream of a woman obscured in darkness. After discovering the identity of this mysterious figure, he finds his life spiraling downward into a world of lies, ambiguities and masquerades.

I am a huge fan of Guillaume Depardieu and I liked him in the other movies that he did before this one but this one was hard for me to understand even thought he was wonderful in every movie that I saw of him.
I found the story hard to follow and there was long period when you were wondering what such and such person was doing in the story.
All in all Guillaume Depardieu was great in the movie as usual.
If you don't like movies that don't have a lot of action then don`t rent this movie you will be disappointed.pretty bad - bigshooter
I also rented this based on what I have read about "the great sex scene" what other articles don't tell you is what a shitty dark scene it is, the whole setting is boring, the character's are boring and ugly as hell to boot. If you have to see this movie because of all the hype you have read about it be warned its hype and thats about itPretentious - FodderMK
Although the story was interesting enough, I found the characters so snotty and narcissistic that they bored me. Mind you, this was another film rented with expectations for a great sex scene, which was pretty good. If you like foreign films where people smoke at outside cafes and act important, you should watch this film. If you're a little more simplistic, like me, don't bother.
