Good but not as good as the original - brentb
I just finished watching the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's classic Psycho. This movie is totally and utterly pointless.Anne Heche is the only thing that makes this film any good. She does a great performance.First of all this film is exactly the same as the original shoot to shoot. The only difference is it is in color and has different actors and acteresses. The director must have been watching the original in the back while directing at the same time.I think that it's nice they tried but you can't remake PSYCHOPsycho - Derekstar
So this film succeeded in a sense, by making me want to re-watch the original. Even technically, all these years later, the original is superior. I re watched the two shower scenes back to back, because something didn't feel right. In the original I feel something in my gut. I feel nothing in the 1998 version. Broadly speaking, Vince Vaughn is overplaying his hand. He's playing crazy. On the whole this version just feels kind of stagy and phony and icky.Pointless - ABC99
Really not sure what the point it here? The original Psycho is in a select group of films that can not be improved or expanded on. Although I'm not sure this remake proves that because it gets some key elements wrong.
The casting of Vinve Vaughn is the biggest flaw. Vaughn is not creepy or uneasy so his Norman Bates fails to even draw comparisons to Anthony Perkins.
That one error kills the experiment and makes the movie pointless
