Quills
"Wickedly Funny and Very Sexy." -The New York Times
Academy Award® winners Geoffrey Rush and Michael Caine join Oscar® nominees Kate Winslet and Joaquin Phoenix in this provocative film filled with delicious desire and wicked wit.
Rush gives a tour-de-force performance as history's most infamous sexual adventurer, the Marquis de Sade. A nobleman with a literary flair, the Marquis lives in a madhouse where a beautiful laundry maid (Winslet) smuggles his erotic stories to a printer, defying orders from the asylum's resident priest (Phoenix). The titillating passages whip all of France into a sexual frenzy, until a fiercely conservative doctor (Caine) tries to put an end to the fun, inadvertently stoking the excitement to a fever pitch.

Brilliant and beautifully deep! If you are one to enjoy movies in these genres and especially all together, this film will be a powerful to you! It shows that no matter what some passions cannot be taken away...no matter what. Not many films done so greatly to show the extreme passion of the characters! I adore movies that push boundaries and allow you to get lost in the story. Enjoy! The Freedom of Insanity. - jmunds
A MArvelous film from beginning to end. The film is not so much about the Marquis, but about the beauty and freedom of isanity. Quills is by far the most interesting look at MArquis de Sade that I have ever seen. Not only because of the rockstar performance of Ruch, but also the flawless performances of the other cast. It is also interesting to note, that Caine is the villain here, are rare side of Caine's acting ability is seen in this film. The film is too good really to put into words, so know just to rent it and enjoy. Also for True Blood fans, Bill Compton is in a cameo role in this film. The Quill is Mightier Than the Sword - PopGun_Edwards
Director, Philip Kaufman, has again hit gold with this adaption of Doug Wright's play about the Marquis de Sade. As in his previous film adaptions of remarkable literary works (The Unbearable Lightness of Being, for example), Kaufman is able to masterly bring the written word to life. He is helped, of course, by strong performances by Rush, Winslet, Phoenix, and Caine. Thoughtful and difficult films like this are seldom successful, but Quills succeeds in fine form, proving once again that the quill is mightier than the sword.
